Expeditions • Makalu

At
8481m, Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world and one of the
giants in terms of both altitude and difficulty. In 1978 a strong
french expedition led by Robert Paragot opened the fantastic West
Pillar : 2000 meter leading directly to the summit. In 1993 (spring),
while Jeff Lowe was attempting another route, Catherine Destivelle and
Erik Decamp tried and failed on this technical West Ridge.
